Your tour through Norway from day to day

Day 1 to 3. Special experiences in Norway

Your holiday has begun. You close your door behind you and travel to Schiphol where you check in for your direct flight of about an hour and a half to Oslo international airport. Your rental car will be ready for you here and before you know it you will be driving through the green landscapes of Norway.

Your route to Geilo, your first address, introduces you to increasingly rugged nature with increasingly higher mountains. After just over a three-hour drive you arrive in Geilo where you check in at the attractive Vestlia Resort. Put on your hiking boots immediately and walk straight into the mountains from the hotel. Be surprised in the coming days by what the beautiful surroundings of Geilo have to offer. The mountain village of approximately 2,500 inhabitants is located at the foot of the mighty Hallingskarvet mountain formation and is the gateway to the Hardangervidda, the largest plateau in Northern Europe. Both have acquired the status of National Park and guarantee an intense experience of nature.

Not only will you be amazed by the beauty of nature, but also by the many fun things you can do there, for both active and passive travelers. Due to its location in the middle of nature and surrounded by the Hardangervidda and Hallingskarvet National Parks, there are endless opportunities around Geilo for walking through the mountains on beautiful and well-signposted trails. The Prestholt circuit and the hike to Ustetind are “must-dos” for advanced hikers. But there are also plenty of options for less advanced hikers and walks with children that will reward you with breathtaking views. How about a boat trip on the 13 kilometer long mountain lake Halnefjorden combined with a walk where you, accompanied by an enthusiastic guide, look for the wild reindeer in the Hardangervidda National Park.

An experience you will not soon forget is a walk on the Hardangerjøkulen glacier, where you put on crampons and, accompanied by a guide, walk over the white ice and look into the deep, blue crevasses. For this activity you first travel from Geilo by train to Finse on one of the most beautiful train routes in Europe. A fun experience for the whole family is the Geilo altitude course, where you overcome 31 obstacles while balancing from tree to tree. Or brave the foaming rapids of the Numedalslågen River in a rafting boat. There are trips for different levels and the upper part of the river is considered one of the best rafting rivers in Europe. You can also go kayaking or canoeing through beautiful nature. For mountain bikers there are extensive options for all levels. Ride on narrow, winding tracks or go downhill mountain biking down the mountain. A horse ride through the mountains is a great introduction to the rugged environment. Be sure to take the train ride to the famous and picturesque tourist town of Flåm from Geilo and possibly get off along the way to cycle part of the fantastic and historic Rallarvegen.

The famous West Norwegian fjords can be quickly reached from Geilo. Your stay in Geilo will quickly become a voyage of discovery along mountains and fjords. Do you enjoy good, tasty and fresh food? Then there is more than enough supply in Geilo. Your resort has excellent cuisine where locally produced ingredients predominate. Be sure to visit Hallingstuene. The chef is a Norwegian TV chef who transforms local ingredients into true taste sensations. But there are many more restaurants that passionately prepare extremely tasty meals for you from local ingredients. These three days in the mountains of Geilo will do you good!

Driving distance: Oslo Airport Gardermoen – Geilo approx. 230 kilometers

Day 4. From the mountains in Norway to Bergen

After checking out and saying goodbye to the wonderful region around Geilo, you will drive along the scenic Hardanger National Tourist Road, which takes you across a wild plateau full of mountain lakes to the rugged Bjoreio River basin. Be sure to stop along the way at Halne Fjellstugu for a cup of coffee with a beautiful view over the sparkling mountain lake Halnefjorden. The next stop will definitely be at Vøringsfossen, one of Norway’s most striking waterfalls. Take the circular walk of about an hour to the bottom of the 185 meter high waterfall and back to your car. Back at your car, you follow the winding route through the impressive, narrow, steep Måbødalen canyon where you reach the picturesque Eidfjord via some great examples of Norwegian road construction. Here you can visit the interesting Norwegian Nature Center Hardanger – an experience center about Norwegian nature, the climate and the landscapes of Norway.

Driving along the beautiful fjord you will reach the next eye-catcher on your route; the high suspension bridge over the Hardangerfjord. The bridge is 1,310 meters long, making it one of the longest in the world. For example, the suspension bridge is longer than the famous Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and the views are just as beautiful! Be sure to stop at the Steinsdalsfossen waterfall along the way for a walk behind the waterfall without getting wet! Winding along the fjords and through mountainous landscapes, the route takes you to the beautifully situated Solstrand Hotel & Bad, where you will stay right by the sea for the next three nights.

Driving distance Geilo – Os: approx. 235 kilometers

Days 5 and 6. Settling in and relaxing in the stunning archipelago

Use the coming days to fully enjoy all the beauty that this region full of narrow straits and mountainous islands has to offer. And that’s a lot! Honor the picturesque town of Bergen with a visit. The town with its colored houses has many sights within walking distance of each other. Without a doubt, you won’t want to miss the most photographed part of Bergen, Bryggen. The colored trading houses on the quay are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List and are beautiful to see. In the narrow streets, which are partly paved with planks, you can take beautiful pictures and buy a tasty lunch in one of the many restaurants. Then walk to the starting point of the Fløibanen. The funicular takes you to a height of approximately 320 meters on Mount Fløyen in just 6 minutes. Here you can enjoy panoramic views of Bergen and the surrounding area. Another option to enjoy the great views is to take the cable car to the 643 meter high mountain Ulriken. You can take beautiful walks there. The Korskirken district, the center of Bergen, the Byparken park and of course the daily Fisketorget fish market are definitely worth a visit. After your introduction to the city of Bergen, you drive over winding roads to Steinsland where you check in for the next three nights at the attractive Solstrand Hotel & Bad, located right on the fjord. In the evening, sitting in the sun on the terrace with a view of the sea and mountains, you can toast to a successful day. Or will you relax in the wellness with a view over the fjord landscape? The sunsets are phenomenal.

Put on your walking shoes and walk through the enticing rocky coastal landscapes to various beautiful viewpoints, rent a sea kayak and sail the tranquil waters, rent a bicycle and cycle through the surrounding hills, get on a SUP board, rent a boat and go fishing or take a sightseeing tour with your rented boat. You can also participate in numerous excursions organized in the region, such as a trip by fast RIB boat to a lighthouse. You can also take many fascinating tours. For example, drive to the nearby fortress “Fjell Festing” for a beautiful view of the surroundings and combine this with a drive to Hellesøy. You drive through a string of islands and narrow straits connected by typical Norwegian bridges. You pass idyllic harbors and charming bays that seem straight out of a brochure. Along the way, don’t forget to stop by Glesvær Kafé in Glesvær and/or the Urtemakeriet bakery in Fjell for a delicious cup of coffee with a home-baked delicacy.

There are extensive options for a closer introduction to the archipelago around Bergen; for example, travel by small boat to Fedje, also known as “the village in the sea” and marvel at the beautiful coastal landscapes along the way. Or go on a full day of island hopping to the westernmost islands in Norway. This trip has been chosen in the top ten of the best experiences in Norway. How about a combined walking and cycling tour led by an experienced guide through rugged mountains? Even a visit to Flåm by train is one of the countless possibilities the region offers. Or – if you are an advanced hiker – take the iconic day hike to Trolltunga. Do you like to play a game of golf? Then try your luck on the 9-hole golf course located near your hotel. Doing nothing at all for a day or part of the day and enjoying the peace and quiet at your hotel can also be very attractive.

Day 7. To the Sognefjord

After a delicious breakfast, it is time to say goodbye to the wonderful region around Bergen. You will definitely want to return here again! The scenic route takes you in a northeasterly direction along impressive fjords and through increasingly higher mountain landscapes to the town of Voss. Feast your eyes along the way because the route is truly beautiful. In Voss you can take part in many exciting outdoor activities such as rafting, riverboarding and canyoning for a real adrenaline rush. Although you will see many waterfalls along the way, it is worthwhile to continue at Voss to the impressive Skjervsfossen waterfall. The waterfall measures a total height of no less than 150 meters and various hiking trails take you to beautiful viewpoints of the waterfall and the mountainous surroundings.

The region around Voss has a culinary heritage, making it an ideal place for lunch. If you are looking for local traditional flavors, stop at Smalahovetunet, just north of Voss. In the old farmhouse, dating from the 18th century, you can order numerous regional specialties including traditional lamb dishes (‘smalahove’ and ‘pinnakjøt’), pickled and spiced meats or treat yourself to porridge with sour cream. After Voss you will definitely stop at the charismatic waterfall Tvindefossen, which is located right on the road. You continue your way to and over the photogenic Vikafell plateau where you experience a completely different Norwegian landscape with barren and rugged natural beauty where there is snow until late spring. During the descent your eyes will be spoiled with spectacular views over the beautiful Sognefjord. You drive to the town of Vagnes where you park the car on the ferry that takes you to the other side of the Sognjefjord.

In Dragsvik you disembark and check in for the next three nights with brother and sister Magnar and Anne, the 3rd generation owners of the local fjord hotel, which is located in a beautiful location, centrally in the Sognefjord region. Wherever you are; in your very spacious room, in the restaurant, in the hotel garden house or on the terrace, you will be embraced by the Sognefjord and the surrounding mountains with even a view of the Jostefonn glacier. In the evening, take a relaxing walk directly from the hotel along the shore of the Sognefjord to the arboretum to relax on one of the beaches and enjoy the views over the fjord.

Driving distance today: Os – Dragsvik approx. 185 kilometers

Day 8 and 9. Extraordinary experiences in the fjords

Explore part of the more than 204 kilometer long Sognefjord in your own way, which winds its way between steep mountain walls with numerous individual side arms. Did you know that the fjord is more than 1,300 meters deep in some places and that the mountains along the fjord are more than 1,700 meters high in places? In this overwhelming natural beauty you can make many beautiful day trips with your car or motorcycle, including the extremely beautiful national tourist routes Sognefjellet and Aurlandsfjellet (the snow road).

A glacier walk on the Jostedalsbreen glacier – the largest glacier on the European mainland – is without a doubt a unique experience. Directly from your hotel you can take three shorter hikes, but also the truly fascinating day hike “Fjellstien” that takes you to the top of Mount Tjuatoten (1,098 meters). You will be rewarded with great views over the Sognjeford and towards Stølsheim, Fjærland and Leikanger. The “Vindriken” hike is another must-do for advanced hikers. You will not soon forget a spectacular 2.5-hour trip by fast RIB boat through the beautiful Nærøyfjord. With any luck you will see sea eagles, dolphins or otters along the way.

You can experience a closer acquaintance with the wonderful nature during a day trip where you sail by small fjord cruise boat through the narrow Fjærlandsfjord, surrounded by steep mountains, to the Norwegian Glacier Museum in Fjærland. After visiting the interesting museum, you will take a closer look at the Bøyabreen and Supphellebreen glaciers. You can have lunch in the Brevasshytta restaurant, located at the foot of the glacier. You will be sailed back again in the afternoon. From nearby Balestrand you can take the fast ferry to the famous Flåm and then take the Flåmbanan train track and then sail back. In Balestrand you can rent kayaks, visit the sea aquarium and attend an interesting cider tasting in the Norwegian famous “Ciderhuset” amidst fragrant apple orchards.

Due to the favorable climate, apples have been grown in the region around this part of the Sognefjord since the Viking Age. There are more than 80,000 apple trees on the fertile strips between the fjord and the mountains. Ciderhuset owner Åge and his team will let you taste a variety of homemade 100% ecological ciders. Ciderhuset also has an excellent restaurant if you want to combine the cider tasting with local dishes.

Day 10. Winding through the high mountains of Norway on scenic routes

After breakfast you will say goodbye to Magnar, Anne and the beautiful Sognefjord with a feeling of nostalgia. Get ready for an unforgettable drive along two of Norway’s most fascinating roads; Gaularfjellet and Geiranger-Trollstigen. It is not without reason that they are included in the list of 18 scenic routes (Nasjonale Turistveger) in the country. So leave on time today to fully experience the many literal highlights along the route. Your ride starts along a branch of the Sognefjord after which you enter the scenic route Gaularfjellet. Six kilometers further, you have driven 9 hairpin bends and conquered more than 500 meters of altitude, the landscape is completely different and from the viewpoint “Utsikten” you will be amazed by the beauty of the surroundings. The road partly follows the foaming river Gaularvassdraget, one of the few protected waterways in Norway. Gaularvassdraget is of great beauty and has a series of rapids and 29 waterfalls, with the Likholefossen waterfall and the bridge over it as one of the highlights.

You continue your way through the mountains past numerous mountain lakes and lakes until your route returns to the fjords at Utvik. Along the way, in the small town of Loen, located at the end of the Innviksfjorden, you can take the truly spectacular Skylift, which opened in May 2017 and takes you 1,011 meters up Mount Hoven in just 5 minutes. Admire the view over the fjords from the restaurant or take a short walk before returning to your car. If you don’t want to take the cable car and are ready for a fragrant cup of coffee or a tasty lunch, you can also visit the enthusiastic Adrian Lefdal of Stryn Kaffebar & Vertshus in Stryn, a little further away. Via Oppstryn, surrounded by an exceptionally beautiful landscape with a crystal clear lake and steep mountains that are part of the Jostedalsbreen National Park, you drive back into the mountains. You can visit the National Park information center or Gamlebutiken in Hjelle. Hjelle is a popular photo spot. The road then goes up, through three tunnels and a few hairpin bends, to the impressive Strynnefjellet mountain formation.

At the picturesque mountain lake Langevatn you follow the road to the iconic Geiranger fjord. Stop along the way for breathtaking views at the Dalsnibba and Flydalsjuvet viewpoints. According to many, the Geirangerfjord is the most beautiful fjord in the world and is one of Norway’s hotspots. You follow the road full of hairpin bends first into the fjord and later out of the fjord via the Ørnevegen (the Arendsweg). You will definitely stop at the Ørnesvingen viewpoint at the top to marvel at the view of the Geirangerfjord, the vertical mountains into the fjord, the “Seven Sisters” waterfall and the Knivsflå ridge. Not much further on you will arrive at the ferry that will take you in a short time from the town of Eidsdal to the hamlet of Linge, located on the other side of the Nordsdalfjord. The road right along the fjord takes you just a few kilometers to the beautifully situated town of Valldal, where you check in for the next three nights at the Valldal Fjordhotell located on the fjord. Surrounded by high mountains and the beautiful fjord, you will undoubtedly take a walk along the water in the evening.

Driving distance today: Dragsvik – Valldal approx. 245 kilometers

Day 11 and 12. On an adventure in unprecedented nature

Enjoy this impressive environment and be seduced by what the fascinating nature has to offer. Valldal Fjordhotel is located in a beautiful location and is surrounded by high mountains. Go out, get into a kayak and get to know this beautiful part of Norway in a relaxed way. For hikers, the area is a true El Dorado and there are countless opportunities for hikes on well-signposted paths. Would you like a little more excitement? Then get into a raft boat and conquer the foaming rapids or take a sensational canyoning trip where you follow the current of a stream while swimming, jumping from rocks and hanging from ropes. A “must-do” for active types is the challenging high-altitude course not far from the hotel.

There are excellent options for travelers who prefer to explore the area by car. There are numerous narrow, winding roads that take you to the most beautiful views. An extremely beautiful and well-known route in Norway is the unsurpassed Trollstigen; a feat of man and nature. The ride over the Trollstigen is without a doubt more challenging than most are used to. The eleven hairpin bends are literally glued to the steep mountain wall and offer views over the dizzying surroundings. At the end of the Trollstigenweg, the harbor town of Åndalsnes is a short distance away, from where you can walk the Romdalstrappan for fascinating views.

Or drive to the beautiful town of Ålesund to explore its beautiful location on several islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Ålesund is known for its Art Nouveau architecture. After the town was hit by a devastating fire in 1904, it was rebuilt in this style. For a majestic view of the town, the beautiful islands and the beautiful Alps of Sunnmøre, go to the Fjelltue and Kniven viewpoints on the city mountain Aksla. The Fjellstua has a viewing platform and a small cafe where you can sit outside. To get to the Aksla you can climb the 418 steps that start in the Byparken city park, or you can drive all the way up by car via the Borgundveien/Fjelltunveien. The Byparken city park houses, among other things, a statue of the Viking Gange-Rolv who founded Normandy in the year 911. He is the ancestor of William the Conqueror who conquered England in 1066 and is therefore also one of the ancestors of the English royal family. Stroll through the streets, experience the Norwegian atmosphere, visit the museums and have a drink at Invit, a popular hang-out among Norwegians.

Another great day trip with your rental car takes you to the best place in Norway to admire the colorful puffins up close; Runde. Along the way you will enjoy the breathtaking fjord landscapes, make a number of ferry crossings and take the walk to the puffins.

Don’t forget to enjoy the warm hospitality in your hotel. The hotel is known for its excellent cuisine made from locally produced ingredients.

Day 13. Along wild waters, extraordinary mountains and beautiful National Parks

It’s time to say goodbye to Valldal, but not before enjoying a delicious breakfast. Take some time today to take in the staggering amount of natural beauty you drive through. Almost the entire route is flanked by National Parks full of high mountains, towering waterfalls and indomitable rivers. You pass the Dalsida, Reinheimen, Dovrefjell-Sundalsfjellet, Dovre, Rondane and finally the Jotunheimen National Park before checking in at the small-scale and high-quality boutique hotel Herrangtunet in the village of Heggenes. Along the way, it is worthwhile to take the short walk to the architectural viewpoint Snøhetta (the Snow Hat) of the Dovre-Sunndalsfjella National Park. Along the approximately 1,500 meter long path from the parking lot to the viewpoint, there are stones that tell you the history of the Dovrefjell mountain range over the last 10,000 years. From the viewpoint you will be rewarded with panoramic views over the National Park, where Musk Oxen still live. You might be lucky and see them! Then take the scenic road through Rondane National Park and drive up at Høvringen or Mysusæter for a short walk and/or lunch on the edge of Norway’s oldest National Park. Finally, the ride on the Valdresflya national tourist road along the Jotunheimen National Park is also of great beauty. Often you will want to stop to take photos of the awe-inspiring mountain landscapes. Many reindeer live here so you have a good chance of seeing them. In the evening, sitting by the campfire at the hotel and enjoying a drink, you toast to a phenomenal day in Norway.

Driving distance today: Valldal – Heggenes approx. 280 kilometers

Day 14 and 15. Versatile Valdres

These days explore the open mountain landscapes with beautiful panoramas of the Valdres region in the way that suits you. There is an extensive network of quiet, surprisingly easy to cycle paths on gravel roads through the mountains; no noise, no traffic and no pollution. Watch out for the curious goats, bleating sheep and cows that occupy the paths and are also enjoying the summer.

You definitely want to spend a day driving to the Jotunheimen National Park to take beautiful walks. It is an unspoilt and almost uninhabited, rugged area, approximately the same size as the province of Friesland, full of high mountains, rugged waterfalls, rivers, lakes, glaciers and valleys. Nowhere in Northern Europe will you find a greater concentration of mountains above 2,000 meters than here. The iconic mountains Galdhøppigen (2,469 meters above sea level) and Glittertind (2,464 meters above sea level) belong to the park and are the two highest mountains in Norway and Scandinavia. Jotunheimen National Park offers some of the most spectacular mountain walks on the entire European continent. The highlight of all this is perhaps the path from Memurubu, where you will be taken by boat, to the Gjendesheim mountain hut, via the narrow Beseggen ridge. The views to the south over Lake Gjendevatnet and Lake Bessvatnet (1,373 meters above sea level) are phenomenal. Other extremely beautiful walks in the vicinity of the National Park are to Mount Bitihorn (1,607 meters above sea level) and Rasletinden (2,105 meters above sea level), probably Norway’s most easily accessible 2,000 meter peak.

The region is not only suitable for walking and cycling, also mountain biking and horse riding. golfing, mountain climbing, rafting, river boarding, fishing and summer tobogganing are some of the many activities you can do there. The region is definitely worth a visit for food lovers. You will be tempted by a wide variety of locally produced delicacies such as caramelized cheese, ice cream, various meats, reindeer meat and “rafisk” – semi-fermented salmon. Trust us, “Rafisk” tastes better than it sounds! Several farms produce and sell their own sausages, cheeses, hams and bread. A special experience that you will not soon forget is a ride in a cart behind a team of enthusiastic huskies. Or take a boat trip with the M/B Bitihorn on Lake Bygdin and admire the views of the many towering mountains. Get in a canoe, on an ATV, or climb on a horse and explore nature. In short, it is pure enjoyment in this fascinating environment.

Day 16. Farewell to beautiful Norway

After you have gained your last impressions of Heggenes, you will travel back to Oslo Gardermoen Airport where you will return your rental car and check in for your direct flight back to the Netherlands. A wonderful, intense introduction to Norway has come to an end!

Solstrand Hotel & Bad, your home for these days is located on the edge of Bjørnefjorden. Wherever you are, you will feel the encounter with the sea and the surrounding nature

The hotel was built in 1896 on behalf of Christian Michelsen, Norway’s first Prime Minister. At that time, it served as a resting place for the residents of Bergen to enjoy the beautiful nature. Since 1929, the hotel has been run with great passion and love by the Schau-Larsen family and they wish you a warm welcome.

What makes Solstrand Hotel & Bad such a beautiful place to stay is the beautifully landscaped garden. We work hard all year round to ensure the lawn, flowers and coastline look their best. Stroll along the beautifully landscaped garden paths and enjoy the peace and quiet in the charming garden pavilion. Or walk to the water and take a refreshing dip in the fjord from the pier. Solstrand Hotel & Bad has an extensive wellness area including an indoor swimming pool with large panoramic windows, a lovely heated outdoor pool and various saunas.

An extensive breakfast buffet is available every day in the restaurant and you can have breakfast with a particularly beautiful view over the garden and fjord. You can also enjoy tasty lunches and delicious dinners prepared from almost exclusively fresh, seasonal local products such as fish from the fjord and lamb from a local sheep farmer. There are plenty of parking spaces, so after a day of exploring the city of Bergen or the surrounding area, you can park your car at the hotel without any problems.

Your standard room with a view over the fjord is located on the garden side of the building. Your room includes a French balcony from which you can look out over the garden and the fjord. If you open the windows when the weather is nice and take a seat in the comfortable seat, it will feel like you are sitting outside. Your room also has a double bed, television, minibar and a beautiful bathroom with shower or bath, hairdryer, bathrobes and bath slippers. You can use WiFi for free and use of the wellness with swimming pools and saunas is included in your stay.

Day 7 to 10 Dragsvik Fjordhotell

Romantic stay right on the Sognefjord

Centrally located on the shore of Norway’s longest fjord, the impressive Sognfjord, you are a guest in the small-scale Dragsvik Fjordhotell. The hotel is located on the idyllic Dragsvik peninsula, located in the picturesque community of Balestrand. You cannot miss the panoramic views over the fjord and the imposing mountains, you are right in the middle of it all! As a bonus, you also have a view towards the Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier on mainland Europe. The nearest town, Balestrand, is approximately 10 kilometers by car from the hotel.

Brother Magnar and sister Anne are the 3rd generation owners of the beautifully located hotel and wish you a warm welcome! The hotel is located on the spot where there was a farm until 1899. In 1953, the land was purchased by Magnar and Anne’s recently widowed grandmother, Gjertrud Farnes. Her husband passed away at a very young age and she decided that Dragsvik was a perfect place to start a guesthouse. She moved to the site and sold the post office she owned in Farnes, about 4 miles away. The proceeds were used to open Dragsvik Fjordhotell and transport their house across the Farnes fjord. Once rebuilt, this became Gjestehuset Bergtun and the building still stands next to the main hotel building. In the 1960s she passed the baton to her son Sigurd and his wife Turid. They were able to expand the family business and later transfer it to Magnar and Anne. The 4th generation is also working at the hotel during the summer months.

Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel in the lounge and seating area. A cozy garden room was recently built, with a fireplace and armchairs and sofas that provide you with fantastic views of the fjord. The hotel garden also has seating areas so you can enjoy the Norwegian summer outside. An extensive Scandinavian breakfast buffet is available every day in the restaurant. Not only the meals but also the view from the restaurant is to die for! Magnar, Anne and their team are happy to help you with all information about trips in the area and in your spacious room you will find well-documented and detailed information about the area.

Your individually furnished comfort room features comfortable beds, a seating area and a recently renovated bathroom. The rooms are modern with a twist from the past. Free WiFi and free parking are offered to you. You can rent bicycles at the reception to explore the area by pedaling. A number of walks are possible directly from the hotel and there is a sandy beach a short distance away. Due to its central location on the Sognefjord, the fjord hotel is an ideal base for all kinds of day trips and excursions. Above all, it is a place to enjoy your stay in peace.

Day 10 to 13 Valldal fjord hotell

A wonderful place between iconic mountains and fjords

Over the next few days you will stay right on the fjord, in a recently completed hotel between two of Norway’s most famous destinations; the Geirangerfjord and the Trollstigen. The hotel is located at the mouth of the foaming river Valldøla and just a few meters away from the beautiful Norddalsfjord, an extension of the fjord Storfjord that penetrates deep into the interior of Norway. You will be amazed by the beautiful views of the Norddalsfjord and the high mountains of the Syltefjellet mountain range that you have from the hotel and the hotel garden.

Your accommodation is the perfect base for touring the area, taking great walks through the mountains, kayaking trips and relaxing boat trips on the fjord and all the other adventures, trips and sights that the region has to offer.

You will stay in one of the forty modern rooms. Your spacious room is equipped with excellent beds, a private bathroom with shower and toilet, TV, an electric kettle and access to a private terrace. WiFi is offered to you free of charge. Your room is located on the ground floor and offers you easy access to the charming center of the small town of Valldal. Stroll through the town and discover the shops, restaurants and book exciting activities and excursions!

For a delicious, seasonal dinner of local tastemakers, you are welcome in the restaurant, decorated with local art and a collection of rare stones from the region. With such beautiful views, it is obvious that the restaurant has large windows through which you can enjoy the surrounding natural beauty. Every morning an extensive Scandinavian breakfast with carefully selected ingredients is ready for you in the restaurant, so that you can start an adventurous day in this spectacular part of Norway full of energy.

Day 13 to 16 Herangtunet Boutique hotel

Modern comfort in ancient nature

You will be guests of Dutchman Marco and his son Balder for three nights. In 2003 they bought a historic Norwegian farm that, after a period of restoration, has been transformed into the modern, luxurious boutique hotel it is today. But while retaining the original character. Where in the past the cows and pigs were stabled, you now spend the night in a personally furnished, high-quality room. The small-scale, cozy, accessible hotel is embraced by nature and is therefore the perfect base for your discoveries in the Valdres region.

Marco knows all the special places in the area and is happy to provide you with advice for special trips and great excursions. A delicious breakfast awaits you every morning and the hotel restaurant serves first-class dishes of traditional Norwegian cuisine with a modern twist. You will stay in the Norwegian room that feels like a romantic log cabin. It is warm and cozy with thick cushions, plaids and reindeer skins in which you can snuggle up. You can of course also relax in one of the leather chairs, light up the fire in the wood stove and enjoy a drink or two…

The almost 20 square meter room offers all the luxury and comfort you need. Your room even has a wooden kitchenette with a two-burner stove. Here you can fillet and marinate the trout you caught this morning! Various seating areas and a fire pit have been created in the hotel’s garden so that you can enjoy Norway’s long summer evenings outside.
