You start your tour at Keflavik International Airport where your rental car is ready for you. Via the spectacular south coast of the Reykjanes Peninsula with intensive geothermal areas, extensive lava fields, interesting bird cliffs and many beautiful views, you travel through the wonderful world of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula to the charming fishing village of Stykkishólmur. Here you take the ferry (not included in the price) to the magical Westfjords where a world of serrated fjord coasts with steep mountainsides and wide bays awaits you. You will experience a number of fantastic days among many thousands of birds and the ubiquitous nature will leave a deep impression on you. Finally, you travel to Reykjavik, the northernmost capital of the world, where you conclude your trip.

Day 1. Velkommin till Ỉsland, welcome to Iceland!

After you fly directly to Iceland and pick up your rental car at the airport, your Iceland adventure really begins! Drive to the south coast of the Reykjanes Peninsula for your first overnight stay in the charming village of Hveragerði. The village is one of the few places in the world built directly on a geothermal area. The village is often called flower village because of the flowers grown in the greenhouses which are heated by the hot water from local springs. Depending on your arrival time, on the way to Hveragerði you can visit the renovated Blue Lagoon to relax in the geothermal warm water. Your first night here in Iceland will be special no matter what. Due to the midnight sun, it hardly gets dark here.
Driving distance: Keflavik International Airport – Hveragerði approx. 105 km | 1.30 hrs. to ride
Day 2. The Snæfellsnes Peninsula
Some highlights from today:

You travel along the west coast to the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Along the way you will pass the perfectly formed Eldborg crater, which seems to belong on the moon. Discover the extraordinary variety of natural wonders of the peninsula, the rich bird life of the Arnarstapi cliffs and take a pleasant walk along the shiny pebble beach at Djúpalónssandur. During the day you will have views of the Snaefellsjokull Glacier, the glistening, icy cone-shaped peak that sits on a dormant volcano. Tonight you will stay in or around the cute town of Stykkishólmur, whose harbor is hidden behind a large rock.

Day 3. The bird paradise Latrabjarg
Some highlights from today:

After a delicious breakfast, you drive the car onto the ferry for the crossing over the Breidafjordur fjord (not included in the price). Along the way, enjoy the more than 3,000 small islands you pass, which are inhabited by nesting seabirds and playful seals. After the ferry crossing you reach the remote Westfjords. Today explore the main attraction of this area, the Latrabjarg cliffs. Europe’s westernmost point, with remarkable 441 meter high cliffs, is home to millions of puffins, gannets, guillemots and razorbills. This beautiful place in nature has been named one of the greatest wildlife spectacles in the world by both National Geographic and Lonely Planet. The cliffs provide a fantastic viewpoint over the beautiful beaches under the midnight sun in summer.

Day 4. Winding through the Westfjords

Today you travel further through the spectacular Westfjords. Keep your eyes open for the thermal pools hidden in the rugged vegetation and drive through the completely unique landscapes full of valleys and mountains. Be sure to stop along the way at Dynjandi waterfall, a 100-meter high and 50-meter wide fan of water that crashes down with thunderous force. In a short distance you will encounter 5 more beautiful waterfalls; Hálifoss, Údafoss, Góngufoss, Hundafoss and Baejarfoss. Enjoy the provincial charms of fishing villages like Þingeyri before your arrival in Ísafjörður. Discover the “capital” of the West Fjords with less than 2,800 inhabitants, which has a surprising vibrancy and an endearing micro-culture, born from years of isolation. You will stay overnight in the Ísafjörður region.

Day 5. The magic of the void

Today you drive through the many uninhabited inlets of the Ísafjarðardjúp fjord. At approximately 75 kilometers the longest fjord in Iceland. You will find a beautiful coastline full of seals and birds. Your final destination today is the village of Hólmavík, where you will spend the night in the village or its surroundings. A trip to the Strandir coast, one of the least visited corners of Iceland, is recommended. This remote and rugged wilderness gives a sense of mystery. You can walk through the breathtaking vegetation, soak in the natural geothermal pools and learn about ancient sorcery and witchcraft. Your day ends in the fertile green valleys of Laugar Sælingsdalur, an area rich in ancient legends. folklore and history.

Day 6. On to Reykjavik

Discover the scenic Borgarfjörður area. See the frothy Barnafoss and the Hraunfossar lava falls, where the water tumbles into the Hvitá River after traveling 46 kilometers under a lava field over a kilometer wide. Don’t miss the most productive hot spring in the world, Deildartunguhver. The source supplies about 200 liters of boiling water per second. Today you can live a unique experience in the Borgarfjörður region. You have the opportunity to go deep into a glacier with an “Into the Glacier” experience. From the town of Húsafell you will be taken by monster truck to the Langjökull glacier where you will enter the sparkling glacier tunnel and learn everything about glaciers and how they formed in a setting with a great focus on environmental conservation and education. For those interested in Viking, we recommend a stop in the town of Borganes. Just outside Borganes is the homestead of a famous hero from the Viking saga: Egill Skallagrimsson. You can learn more about him and the first Viking settlers in Iceland at the Settlement Museum in the town of Borgarnes. Continue through the Hvalfjörður fjord, a picturesque fjord where you can admire Glymur, the highest waterfall in Iceland. Finally, you travel to the capital Reykjavik, the northernmost capital in the world, for your last overnight stay in fantastic Iceland. Reykjavik is small and cozy but with urban allure. Reykjavik is a trendy city with many cultural sights, an exuberant nightlife, beautiful parks and interesting nature reserves surprisingly close to the city center.

Day 7. The end of a fascinating journey
After you have sat down for breakfast for the last time, you drive your rental car back to the airport to check in for your flight home. A fantastic total experience of Iceland has come to an end!

Your flights to Iceland
Your flights are operated by the renowned airline Icelandair. The above rates are based on the lowest priced flight class. Most airlines have different classes of carriage. Often there is only a price difference between different classes and no difference in leg space and/or care. After receiving your reservation request, we will check the availability of the flight class. If the desired flight class is no longer available, we will contact you immediately for consultation. You can then book a higher flight class for a surcharge or we will look for a different departure date.

All necessary insurances are included, so no additional costs on site, so 100% worry-free!
Your rental car includes:

Your rental car does not include:
- Fuel (you will receive your rental car with a full tank of fuel and must return it with a full tank of fuel)
- Waiver of CDW deductible €6.75 per day*
- Baby car seat (0 – 9 kg) approx. €58 for the entire rental period
- Child car seat (9 – 18 kg) approx. € 38 for the entire rental period (mandatory for a child up to 5 years old)
- Child car seat (15 – 36 kg) approx. € 15 for the entire rental period (mandatory for a child up to 5 years old)
* NB! The following damages are not covered by all insurance policies and are always at your own risk: damage caused while crossing waterways, damage caused by animals, damage caused by driving on unpaved roads to the gearbox and chassis, damage caused by reckless driving, driving driving under the influence and/or off-road and damage to tyres, wheels, suspension, batteries and radio equipment.
A driver of the rental car must have had a valid Dutch, Belgian or EU driving license for at least one year. The minimum age for renting a car up to category 3.3H is 20 years. For the other categories, a minimum age of 23 years applies. The main driver of the rental car must have a valid credit card, which must be shown during pick-up.
We advise you to arrange the waiver of your deductible in advance via Trekking Trails Travels. You pay much more locally.
If you do not return the car with a full tank of fuel, you will be charged €20 plus the costs of the missing fuel
Your stay in Iceland
In Iceland, Trekking Trails Travels works with 4 different types of accommodation so you have the freedom to select the type that suits you. With the Superior type you stay in the best possible accommodation addresses, of course in rooms with private bathrooms, in the region, with the Quality type you stay in the most comfortable standard rooms with private sanitary facilities in your room. With the Comfort type you stay in standard accommodation addresses with private sanitary facilities in your room. With the Budget type you stay in basic accommodations and share the sanitary facilities with the other guests, except for the first night. You will stay at all types of accommodations on a bed and breakfast basis. Quality is an important factor for Trekking Trails Travels. When putting together our trips, we select accommodations based on location, service and a good price/quality ratio.
Iceland travel app
During your tour in Iceland you have access to the travel app. You will have access to the app no later than two weeks before the start of your trip. The app contains all kinds of useful information about numerous sights, historical hotspots and services along the way, all information about your booking, descriptions of your accommodation addresses and a detailed travel book (PDF file) in Dutch.

Waiver of CDW deductible
During your tour in Iceland, your rental car is insured as standard for damage caused to the car. This insurance is called CDW (Car Damage Waiver). There is a deductible of ISK 242,000 to ISK 399,000 (depending on the type of car you rent) for this insurance. The amount of the applicable deductible can be purchased in full for €6.75 per calendar day. If you unexpectedly cause damage to the rental car during your tour, Allianz Global Assistance (our insurer in this case) will pay you the repair costs up to the amount of your deductible. You first pay these costs yourself on site, all you have to do is submit proof of payment for the damage and the settlement will then be taken care of by Allianz Global Assistance. They will transfer the amount to you after settlement.
